History

Judi Smith Designs, Inc. is a “homegrown” family business that was established in 1996 by the Principal Building Designer and President, Judi Sample Smith, CPBD, AIBD. Originally, our corporate name was Mystic Valley Properties, Inc. d/b/a MVP Designs. However, the company’s name changed to Judi Smith Designs, Inc in 2006. In 2005, James Swindler, CD (Judi’s brother) joined the staff as a Full-Time Designer and CADD Draftsman. James is a Certified Architectural Drafter, ADDA. Then, in 2006, Ron Smith (Judi’s husband) came aboard as Vice President of operations, finance, and marketing.

Education

In 1996, Judi Sample Smith moved to Union County Georgia from the Melbourne, Florida area. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree with a Mechanical Engineering minor from Florida Institute of Technology in 1981. Additionally, she earned a Master of Science in Engineering Management degree from Florida Institute of Technology in 1986. In 1984, Judi was Co-founder of a Florida based engineering and manufacturing company that became a world leader in specialized test instruments. After its purchase by BF Goodrich in 1993, she turned her engineering talents to the related fields of residential and commercial building design

Accomplishments

Judi’s further accomplishments include: professional designation as a Certified Professional Building Designer (CPBD), professional membership in the American Institute of Building Design (AIBD), serving on the Board of Directors for the Union-Towns Homebuilder’s Association (UTHBA), membership in the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), and membership in the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) and participation in both the Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce and Towns County Chamber of Commerce. She also served a five-year term on Florida Institute of Technology’s Board of Trustees.

Author

Judi is the co-author of “Living in the Key West Style, Anywhere”; a book on classic design styles of Key West homes. Likewise, she is Co-Founder and Vice-President of Southern Coastal Designs, LLC, a Florida corporation that specializes in coastal style stock home plans. Technology

Judi Smith Designs, Inc. utilizes the latest computer technology to virtually create and render three-dimensional views of each building. This technology allows each customer to see his or her completed building before any ground is broken. The virtual build provides an opportunity for the designer and the owner and/or builder to view and remedy any problems before construction begins. This advanced technology enhances our company’s ability to meet the needs of each client, extending from the preliminary design all the way through to the final construction drawing package. Our company’s emphasis is on enabling each client’s design ideas to become a reality.
